Taking Care Of Concrete Fountains Is Easier Than You Think

Water fountains are not just another piece of art. They are works of art that come alive as soon as you put on the switch. The water in the reservoir keeps circulating; making a gurgling noise that soothes the frayed nerves and calms the agitated mind. Left to themselves most of them represent a beautiful sculpture that gladdens the eyes and fills the heart with a joy that only a beautiful piece of art can. It is especially true of Campania fountains. That they will need special care is nothing surprising at all. However, taking care of the Campania water fountains is not that hard a job that you should shriek and run home.

If you have a home of your own, then I am sure you know by now how important it is to have just the right decoration and addition to your home. No doubt a fountain is a great addition to have in any home. It looks good, makes a bold statement, relaxes and soothes you after a long hard day just by looking at it and listening to the soft, gentle sounds of the flowing waters whose negative ions are thought to improve overall well being - really what more could you ask for? But as with almost every other decorative item, fountains such as concrete fountains is going to need some looking after.

Most of the water fountains are meant for installation in the gardens and patios, although some are meant for indoor use. The outdoor fountains are naturally exposed more to debris and dirt and should therefore require special care. Although they are made from different materials, buying one that is made from architectural concrete like cast stone is best because concrete fountains are not only durable but also easily maintainable. Fountains made from metals like copper and aluminum is durable too, but they are not that easy to maintain. Those that are made from fiberglass may be easy to maintain, but they can never be as durable as concrete.

Water fountains seem to be especially popular in Italy and Rome, and we can look back to them for inspiration for many of the fountain designs we see nowadays. The function and beauty of the fountains that were first designed by the ancients in Italy and Rome had no match - they were some truly beautiful designs. Fountains have always had both practical and aesthetic purposes, and the more artistically designed they are, the more beauty they add to the surrounding environment. They are not exactly as hard to maintain as you might think. They do require some upkeep because you want them to last you a lifetime like they are supposed to anyway, but that won’t happen unless you put some effort into taking care of them as well.

Fountains always had and still now have practical as well as aesthetic values. Concrete fountains are aesthetically pleasing, easy to maintain and therefore is worth every dollar you spend on it. The following steps will keep the concrete fountains not only running, but also look as new for years:

• Wash the fountain with mild soap and soft bristled brush when it looks too dirty. Do not use bleach or any hard scrubber. That will corrode the concrete and destroy the patina.

• Put a little algaecide into the water to prevent formation of algae or other microbes. As it is running water itself is detrimental to growth of many microorganisms. They prefer stagnant water. Therefore, empty the reservoir if you do not use it for some time.

• Make sure the pump does not run dry. Check water level regularly and pour a little water now and the, so that the pump remains submerged in the water.

• Service the pump periodically and see that the pump inflow is free.

So you see, maintaining your water fountain is not that big a hassle. However, remember to take concrete fountains indoors if your area experiences freezing cold. Alternatively, you can cover them up with fountain covers. You will find them with the manufacturer of these fountains and if you do not they will tell you where to find them. You can also try the Garden shops on your own. Take care of your water fountains and the water fountains will take care of you. Have you heard how negative water ions bring about an all round well being for us?
